Valentine’s party

Every year, CAPE has a valentine’s party.  Every kid arrives with valentines that they’ve brought to share.  Kids walk in the door and set to coloring their goody bags and playing games.  It’s a very organized affair, with plenty of things to keep kids interested.  There is a snack time with a table full of cheese & crackers, goldfish, pretzels, teeny weenies, fruit and other non-candy treats.  Parents are welcome to join in with the activities, or to simply supervise from above.  One of the kids’ favorite activities is the cookie decorating.  The host bakes up a bunch of thick, yummy bakery-style sugar cookies and each child is allowed to decorate them with a ton of frosting and a million different kinds of sprinkles.  At the end, each child leaves with a bag full of valentines, fun memories with friends and, quite possibly, a first-hand lesson proving  the rumor that too much sugar can give you a belly ache.

Here are some of the games and activities we usually play at the CAPE Valentine’s Day party:

1- decorating nametags – these are just self-adhesive nametags and we decorate with markers & crayons

2- decorating goody bags – these are white lunchbags that we decorate with stickers, doilies, markers, rhinestones, and crayons

3-decorating cookies- giant homemade sugar cookie hearts decorated with pink, red and white frosting as well as every kind of sprinkle in the grocery store.  seriously.

4- the rose drop.  Kids are given a bouquet of silk roses & drop them into a vase from a high place.  They’re given a prize if it lands straight.

5- Pin the something on the something, shame on me for not remembering what we’re pinning.  I can picture the kids doing, it but not completely.  my bad

6- the valentine exchange – kids stand in a circle, or line up from one end to another and take turns walking from child to child, placing a valentine into their bag

7- surely there are more.  Anyone who remembers can leave a comment below in response.  If you have ideas or suggestions, feel free to list them here.

Please share, It's all good :)
